I was out trimming some bushes yesterday and felt a bit like Edward Scissorhands. Pretty funny image. I like all the plants to have their own space, and when they start to crowd each other, I start chopping! I cut our roses way back this year and Lee was afraid I'd killed them, but they are looking so healthy and producing huge big roses, even though the bushes are smaller - but they will grow. I also whacked our fruit trees drastically. The big mistake I made there was cutting them back in the Fall. I should have waited until Spring, since most fruit grows on last year's wood. I won't do that again, but our trees are still so small, the branches can't support much fruit anyway, so I don't feel too badly.
We have been harvesting strawberries already and it is so fun to have a dish of our homegrown berries! I become more and more aware of the reasons we chose to live in a more rural setting. We have all the convenience of city dwelling, yet the serenity and beauty of "nearly" living on a farm! Yes, it's true, we even hear the occasional rooster crowing, plus lots of cows mooing and horses neighing. It is delightful.

I think we both recognize that everything loves a good haircut now and then. Maybe it was our time in Germany when we saw the flora just go crazy!
