I read something recently in the Book of Mormon that I thought would make a good Food Storage and Preparedness scripture reference. It had never hit me this way before, but perhaps, it is so much on my mind because we just had our Preparedness Fair, and I've been thinking so much about Food Storage.
Anyway, see if it hits you the same way it did me. 3 Nephi 3: 13
(Lachoneus, the Nephite Governor sent out a proclamation to all his people, telling them to be prepared for war with the Gadianton Robbers) "Yea, he sent a proclamation among all the people, that they should gather together their women and their children, their flocks and their herds, and all their substance, save it were their land, unto one place... (sound like the call for Food Storage?) Then in 3 Nephi 4: 18 & 19, we read how the Nephites had an advantage over the robbers, because of their Food Storage. The robbers couldn't fight because they were starving to death, while the Nephites had more than enough provisions set aside to withstand a long seige. "But behold, this was an advantage to the Nephites, for it was impossible for the robbers to lay siege sufficiently long to have any effect upon the Nephites, because of their much provision which they had laid up in store. And because of the scantiness of provisions among the robbers; for behold, they had nothing save it were meat for their subsistence which meat they did obtain in the wilderness." When I read that, I thought, "yes! The Nephites were obedient to the call to do Food Storage, and were blessed for it. Will we do the same in our time?"
